You've studied your hair type. You’ve carefully chosen the best-suited products, but are you applying them correctly and in the right order? These seemingly small details can make or break your hair care routine.
Shampoo and Conditioner
This may seem obvious, but this is the foundation of your hair care and styling routine. So be sure that the ones you use are formulated for your hair type, and use a clarifying shampoo at least once a week to keep buildup at bay.
Right after rinsing your conditioner is the time to apply any rinse-off hair masks. Use your fingers to comb through, and then relax in the tub for 10 to 15 minutes to let it do its work.
Styling products can make strands sticky and sort of glue knots and tangles in place. You should use a detangler right after you shower, applying from the middle to the ends of your hair to easily work out the knots.
Now that your tresses are tangle-free it is time for the leave-in conditioner. It will absorb more readily while your hair is still damp.
Now is the time to apply your volumizing products. Root booster, moose, and gel go on more evenly and do their job better when they're applied to damp hair and then dried.
If you're going to be heat styling this is the point that you would add some heat protection. You want to apply it evenly all over to make sure every inch of your hair is protected.
Hair spray can make strands sticky and cause them to clump together if applied while hair is still damp. So hair sprays and texture sprays should be the final step, once your hair is completely dry and styled the way you want it.
